A Lifetime of Cameras.

Ever since I can remember, there was always a box camera in my family's home, being used for family photos. Horses were always around too and often part of the pictures.

Living on a farm I became interested in flora and fauna and particularly birds.

I had several different roll film folding cameras while at High School. Upon leaving school I bought a 35mm SLR (Single Lens Reflex) Pracktica camera with close up lenses. I then joined the RAAF for six years, training and working as a photographer.

Photographing horses and selling the results started in the early 1970s. My first published photos were of the Mount Gambier One Day Event and appeared in Hoofs & Horns magazine.

Since then I have been photographing equine, landscape & wildlife subjects, with these photos appearing in books, magazines & newspapers. Also illustrating articles I have written, mainly for horse magazines.

I have also worked in a portrait studio and photo labs processing and printing films.

Since about 1980 I regularly covered South Australian equestrian competitions and soon was photographing and reporting on most One Day Events & Horse Trials held in SA.

During this time I was also involved in showing and breeding ASHs and back in 1972 called the first meeting of the Aust. Stock Horse Society in SA. I completed a four year term as a National ASHS Director in July 2001.

From 1999 until 2003 I produced computer generated proofs after scanning the negatives.

Since 2003 with a digital camera, the work flow was streamlined further, so that proofs and website images were easier to manage and display sooner. Stud work was shown on the spot & choices made the same day as photos were taken. Competition photos were also displayed via a laptop computer or inkjet printer the same day.

I ceased photographing horse events and horse stud activities at the end of 2006, and since then concentrated on bird photography, and now am documenting the species seen in the Fleurieu Peninsula area of Sth Aust.
