How to get there.

The Hindmarsh River enters the sea 1 km northeast of the Victor Harbor Post Office. To explore the western side, parking is available close to the mouth on the esplanade (Bridge Terrace). On the eastern side there is a parking bay on Hindmarsh Rd. Cross the railway line and follow the boardwalk through the backwaters to the beach.
There are several parking areas along Wattle Drive if you are walking further upstream.

Hindmarsh River Estuary area and the trails upstream are often overlooked by holiday makers and visitors to the popular tourist town of Victor Harbor. There are board walks and walking trails from the beach to McCraken playground and picnic area. (See map). For anyone staying at Victor Harbor this is an excellent area in which to take an early morning walk or jog. The variety of habitats along the river banks are ideal to see a excellent range of birds. Most trails are well sheltered in windy weather and shaded on warmer days.
